TRAINIng

As soon as it's getting colder and the winter season approaches, training begins. After the long summer break, the dogs are gradually getting accustomed again to running several kilometers and pulling sleds. When the harnesses are taken outside and the dogs see them, they all get very excited, barking with joy and can't wait to get started. The barking doesn't stop until they begin to run.

As long as there isn't enough snow, training will be done with ATVs. Around 14 dogs are harnessed to one ATV at a time. The average speed during training is about 14 km/h. There are several routes that are used alternately every few days, depending on the weather. The length of the routes are between 4 to 26 km. During training, water breaks are taken regularly.

When there is enough snow, the sleds are prepared.

The following kinds of sleds are available:

  • six single sleds, each pulled by four dogs
  • three double sleds, each pulled by six dogs
  • three guide sleds
